The month of October is almost behind us, the fall weather and season is here and the holiday season will be upon before you know it! Of course this Friday is also Halloween and we will be taking our kiddos out to Trick or Treat, hopefully the great weather we’ve had around here lately continues.
The problem with Trick or Treating is all of the candy and the temptation it brings along with it… How do you try to avoid the sweets that show up in such great abundance? The most effective tactic is “Out of Sight, Out of Mind”! Let you kiddos enjoy the treats on Halloween and perhaps even the next day, but then…GET RID OF IT!
You or your kids probably don’t need all of that sugar anyway… There are several dentists or charitable programs that will take the candy off your hands, so check into that if you would rather not toss it into the trash.
Here are a few tips for keeping your evening healthy and safe: provide healthier treats for trick-or-treaters, such as individual packs of raisins, trail mix, nuts, or pretzels (factory wrapped). For party guests, offer a variety of fruits, vegetables and low-fat dips; use party games and trick-or-treat time as an opportunity for kids to get their daily dose of 60 minutes of physical activity; and stay safe by wearing well-fitting masks, costumes and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips and falls.
