Food for Thought
You know how important physical activity is to your overall health Another critical element to good health is good eating, and it’s not just what you eat, but how much you eat. Remember these important tips next time you’re at the dinner table. I have covered a lot of nutrition basics in the past and compiled the best of the best in the Nutrition 101 section of the site.
Portion Tip 1:
Keep your serving sizes about the size of your palm. Smaller portions help you create a natural stopping point in your meal, and gives you a chance to feel if you’re “full” before eating more than you need.
Portion Tip 2:
Eating out? Halve it. Restaurant entrees can be up to 2,000 calories (not including the appetizer and bread!). Plus, saving leftovers for lunch is a great way to stretch a dollar these days.
Portion Tip 3:
When you’re eating at home, use a salad plate for your meal instead of a dinner plate.
Challenge yourself to try one or two of these tips for a week and see how it works for you. Or, post your own tip for keeping calories under control.
